Cabernet Sauvignon and tell your story. Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. The front and back labels of the Barter & Trade Cabernet give us lots of information. This second annual edition Washington State wine was sourced from the Columbia Valley, then cellared and bottled in Paso Robles. It is a blend of 92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc, 4% Merlot. It was aged in equal portions of new and used French oak. Barter & Trade wine grapes are grown under the Shadows of the Cascade Mountains and in the humble Ancient Lakes of Columbia Valley in Eastern Washington. Though this prime land bears exceptionally choice wine grapes, bursting with body and flavor but bearing more structure than California wines, it has yet to receive the accolades that other noted regions claim. What can I say, I have a wine crush on Andrew Jones. He is the man behind Field Recordings, the Fabliest, and countless other ventures. It seems like he keeps creating these wines that cost less than $20 but taste more like $30. This Cabernet is a bit of a loophole in our "California Wine Shop." This Cab is produced i Almost all wine production occurs in Washington's hot, desert-like eastern part, although there is some grape growing and one AVA (Puget Sound) in the cooler, wetter west. The white grapes Chardonnay and Riesling , and the red grapes Merlot , Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah are the main varieties grown in Washington, but the Andrew Jones began his Barter & Trade label with Merlot.
