In 2018/2019, about 73.5 million metric tons of palm oil was produced worldwide. In comparison, the production volume of soybean oil amounted to 57 million metric tons in that year. Rapeseed has an oil content of 40% and a high level of protein used for animal feed. The oil content is higher compared to the soybean oil content of 18%. Among the world’s 2017 highest producers were the European Union, China, Canada, India, and Japan. The European Union was the highest rapeseed producer.

Soybean oil processors comprise the largest share of the vegetable oil industry, producing about 75 percent of the domestic supply of vegetable oil. Vegetable oils are used almost entirely for human consumption, although small quantities are used for industrial purposes such as in paints, resins, and animal feeds.

This article throws a light on the recent situation of oilseed as well as vegetable oil production in the world referring to those in Egypt.
