Figure 4. x and R control charts showing the entire project. As demonstrated by this example, control charts can assist in quality control. Although in-place air voids were within specification for the entire project, the control chart allowed us to locate two process shifts (at approximately lot 20 and lot 50) that may have otherwise gone undetected. April 2004 In this issue "In Control" Control Chart Points Beyond the Control Limits Zone Tests: Setting the Zones and Zone A Zone Tests: Zones B and C Test for Stratification Test for Mixtures Rule of Seven Tests Quick Links The focus for this month is on interpreting control charts. Processes, whether manufacturing or service in nature, are variable. You will not always get the same result UCL represents upper control limit on a control chart, and LCL represents lower control limit. A control chart is a line graph that displays a continuous picture of what is happening in production process with respect to time. As such, it is an important tool for statistical process control or quality control. It integrates high performance, reliability, and flexibility in equal measure. It is technically advanced yet functionally simple. It is backed by the design, engineering, and production resources of an acknowledged security and control technology leader. While fixed values of the explanatory variables are cornerstones in other control charts proposed to monitor profiles, in GLT/R chart, it is not a necessary condition . statistical process control; control charts; robust estimation; Monte Carlo methods. p Control Charts. A p control chart is used to look at variation in yes/no type attributes data. There are only two possible outcomes: either the item is defective or it is not defective. The p control chart is used to determine if the fraction of defective items in a group of items is consistent over time. In a Moving Average chart, the quantities that are averaged can be individual observations instead of subgroup means. However, a Moving Average chart for individual measurements is not the same as a control (Shewhart) chart for individual measurements or moving ranges with individual measurements plotted. The individuals and moving range (I-MR) chart is one of the most commonly used control charts for continuous data; it is applicable when one data point is collected at each point in time. The I-MR control chart is actually two charts used in tandem (Figure 7). Together they monitor the process average as well as process variation. Linear regression and control chart theory are combined to yield an effective technique for controlling manhours in a situation in which the workload is variable but highly correlated with the manhours. Worked examples are discussed in details. Several managerial applications are suggested. Keywords. Control charts,Regression The performance of several control charting schemes is studied when the process mean changes as a linear trend. The control charts considered include the Shewhart chart, the Shewhart chart supplemented with runs rules, the cumulative sum (CUSUM) chart, the exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) chart, and a generalized control chart.
