NFIB Research Center has collected Small Business Economic Trends Data with Quarterly surveys since 1973 and monthly surveys since 1986. The sample is drawn from the membership files of the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB). Each was mailed a questionnaire and one reminder. Subscriptions for twelve monthly SBET issues are $250. The NFIB survey is not as good an indicator of GDP growth as the ISM nonmanufacturing index. NFIB's membership is not representative of the entire economy. Construction and retail are responsible for 45% of NFIB respondents.
