Oil rising on dipstick

No matter what the dipstick reads over filled when I do a complete drain then put in the required amount of oil listed in the manual. The dipstick is flimsy too. I had looked earlier, never saw any good replacements for the factory dipstick. That was a few years ago, any ideas of a better dipstic Have been changing oil at 3,000 mile intervals, and with each change the oil level, which starts off on the dipstick mark, pretty soon creeps up to about 1/8-1/4 inch above the top hole. It has 285 miles on it now and I have been experiencing a problem with the oil level rising. It shows 3/8" high on dip stick or about 3 ounces overfill by measure. The first time it happened I changed the oil and about 3 months and 40 miles later--it was high again. When I change the oil, I add by the level on the dipstick--checking as I add. Hey guys, I’ve got smoke coming out of my oil dipstick tube. 1996 Mercury Mystique 2.0L automatic, 62000 miles. I noticed a burning oil smell after a short (10 mile) drive, and checked the oil when I got home. A few wisps of smoke smelling of burning oil came out of the dipstick tube when I removed the stick. I was just curious how worried I should be about this. As far as I can tell, my If you just overfilled the oil or the oil change place overfilled the oil then you will need to drain a bit off. One inch high on the dipstick is about 2 quarts overfilled for my truck. For a small car it might only be 1 quart. I would drain off a quart at least and then recheck the oil.

The oil level is known to rise when it's hot. It is less viscous and returns to the crankcase faster. I know on my 05 WRX, the dipstick has an additional notch above the max line to check correct level when the oil is hot. When checking the oil on the dip stick you should be checking it in the same place and engine temperature in order to get correct readings. If you check the engine when its cold and then again when it is hot then the oil level will rise a small amount due to expansion from heat. The residue on the dipstick is caused by the pressure in the oil pan forcing the oil up the dipstick when the engine is running. The oil pan is pressurized by the return of the pistons on the power

The oil on the dipstick might even look like chocolate milk. Never taste motor oil as a test for antifreeze. Another prominent indication of coolant leak is white exhaust smoke that has a sweet odor. In this case, the dipstick oil level may actually rise, indicating a significant amount of coolant has leaked into the crankcase.

19 Jul 2016 Oil level rising on the Mazda 5 and 6 diesel engine is a very common issue, problem as everyone else in regards to the oil level and dipstick. Dealer replaced the HPFP and changed oil and it has been good since. Oil level was way over full and kept rising. Agree; condensation and raw gasoline will raise the dipstick level over a period of short trips where the engine does not warm up. After a vigorous long drive OP may find the level back to normal, There are many posts in the past about the “mysteriously disappearing oil” that these drivers experienced, especially when cars had carburetors with chokes.

I too own a 2012, 2500 (30K miles) with the 6.7L and just changed the oil in it about three weeks ago. I put 3 gallons of Rotella T 15W40 with a new filter and find the fluid level to be above the high mark on the dipstick. Yes I drained the old oil long enough and check the oil level with a cold engine. I have recently purchased a Ferretti 57, with Caterpillar 3406E, 812hp six cylinder engines.
